Natural to the Core
Happy Wraps is a new Calgary company formed by 2 local youth who are participating in a Youth Entrepreneurship Program organised by Thrive, Momentum, and the City of Calgary.
We were challenged to come up with a business idea, and provided the tools to and opportunities to begin to learn about how to establish, run and market their business.
We chose to make beeswax food wraps because of our concern for the environment, and desire to reduce the amount of single-use plastics. Beeswax is a natural preservative, and is known for its natural anti-fungal and antibacterial properties. It is also waterproof, so it keeps unwanted moisture out, while keeping foods fresh. It is edible and nontoxic, unlike chemical-filled plastics, so it is safe to keep close to your food.
Happy Wraps business model follows the 3 R's of the environment: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Happy Wraps strives to be as local as possible. Our wraps are made from fabrics from our homes (and thrift shops), the beeswax is sourced locally, and our packaging is recycled. The wraps are 100% compostable after they have reached the end of of their useful life.
Happy Wraps are attending as many local markets as we are able, and we hope to continue their business even after school begins again.
